The Cape Town Central police, in partnership with Cape Town Central police women’s network organisation, vistited Holy Cross Primary School for a bullying awareness programme, on Thursday April
18.
Captain Ezra October of Cape Town Central Police, and Lieutenant Colonel Corné Brandt from the women’s network organisation, represented the station.
Captain October told the pupils that bullying can be defined or expressed as repeated aggressive behaviour, that can be physical, verbal or both.
Principal Nomthandazo Zweni said it was great that Captain October came along with more than 10 women from the police’s women’s network organisation to speak to the pupils about bullying.
“We enjoyed the interaction with the group, and look forward to have similar interventions in the near future,” she said.
Captain October also spoke about how technology and social media are becoming a big part of people’s lives, where bullying also exists on social media platforms, and is known as cyber-bullying.
Captain October and Lieutenant Colonel Brandt advised the children to act on bullying if they experienced it, by not blaming themselves, because it is no their fault. They were also told to get help by talking to a parent, teacher, counselor or trusted adult.
Captain October shared child safety tips on bullying, which is available on the police’s website at www.saps.gov.za/child_safety/youth/youth.php
