Woodstock police arrested seven people for drug-related offences last week.
On Saturday August 3, at 9.30pm, police arrested a 30-year-old man in Mascani on suspicion of drug
dealing.
Woodstock police spokesman Warrant Officer Hilton Malila said patrolling officers who searched the man had found 94 units of heroin and 5kg of tik with an estimated street value of R35 000.
On Sunday August 4 at around 3pm, police acting on a tip-off arrested a 70-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman at a Wright Street house and seized 100 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R5000.
“Upon police arrival at the house, the two suspects were trying to dispose of the evidence, but swift reaction from the officers, led to the confiscation of 100 mandrax tablets,” Warrant Officer Malila said.
Later, at 5.30pm, police arrested a suspected drug dealer during a sting operation in Burns Road, Salt River. The 43-year-old man had five packets of tik on him, according to police.
On Wednesday August 7, City law enforcement arrested a 28-year-old man with a backpack in Mascani at 2pm, on suspicion of drug dealing.
“Officers searched the bag and confiscated 226 packets of tik, 78 units of heroin, 39 mandrax tablets and huge amount of cash in the possession of the suspect,” Warrant Officer Malila said.
On Monday August 12, Woodstock police arrested another two females aged 33 and 34 around 6.30pm for drug possession at the Stalle in Bromwell Street, Woodstock. Warrant Officer Malila says that the arrests were made after they received information from the public related to drug peddling in the vicinity.
“Officers surprised the occupants and during a search of the structure they confiscated 68 mandrax tablets and 19 plastic packets filled with tik, which have an estimated street value of R5000 and also found a substantial amount of cash on the premises,” he said.
Pinelands police arrested a man on a charge of perjury on Wednesday July 24 after he allegedly laid a false robbery charge.
Woodstock police also arrested a 27-year-old man for perjury on July 28 after he allegedly lied to police about a hijacking.
“During an intensive investigation into the hijacking, detectives discovered that the vehicle was involved in an accident on Nelson Mandela Boulevard prior to reporting of the hijacking,” said Warrant Officer Malila.
Acting Pinelands station commander Captain Anton van der Berg urged the public not to report false cases.
Woodstock police arrested two men, aged 25 and 27, on Tuesday for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Warrant Officer Malila said officers responded to reports of gunshots and arrested two men seen running in the direction of a known drug outlet near Argyle and Regent streets. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol that one of the men had allegedly thrown to the ground.
