Play looks back on 175 years at St George’s

The three leads of Time Will Tell, from left, are Sibusiso Khumalo (Tank), Alex Wolhuter (Beans) and Matthew Jander (Brains).

St George’s Grammar School staged an original school play, Time Will Tell, on Friday May 5 and Saturday May 6 as part of the school’s 175th anniversary celebrations.

The play, which is written and directed by teachers Chad Emslie and Chloe Reeler, explores the school’s long history through three high-school misfits, Brains played by Matthew Jander, Beans played by Alex Wolhuter and Tank played by Sibusiso Khumalo.

They get stuck in detention in 2023, and, through a series of comic events, their corrective learning becomes an epic adventure taking them back to the halls of St George’s Cathedral in 1848 when the school was founded by Bishop Robert Gray.
