Soil for Life will hold a summer open garden, just off Brounger Road, Constantia, on Saturday December 3, from 9am to 3pm.
The NPO is committed to growing healthy soil, people and communities. All funds raised from the R20 entry fee will go towards helping people in low-income communities create sustainable home food gardens.
There will be practical demonstration by Soil for Life’s trainers on composting, earthworms and water-wise gardening. They will also be exploring the value of growing pulses and legumes in celebration of this year’s World Soil Day, marked on December 5, the theme of which is “Soils and Pulses – a Symbiosis for Life”.
You will also be able to stock up on compost, plants, seedlings, herbs, planter boxes and freshly-picked organic veggies at Soil for Life’s earth-friendly food garden. Green juices, coffee, cake and pulse-based foods, such as humus, bean salads and sprouts will also be on sale.
