The Helen Keller Society, in Pinelands, will open its new book room and nursery to the public on Wednesday August 16.
Glenis du Toit, a spokeswoman for the non-profit, says the previous book room was too small.
“We received a large outpouring of support from the public who sent us books, so we decided to open a big book room, and we will open it on specific days of the month.”
The nursery offers more than 20 types of plants including spekboom, irises, guava trees and parsley.
All funds raised from the book room and nursery would be used to hold the society’s end-of-year fete, its biggest fund-raiser and one that supports the society’s low-vision service, knitting group and staff-travel fund as well as other needy organisations, said Ms Du Toit.
Due to the society’s limited staff and volunteers, the book room and nursery, at 2A Links Drive, will only be open once a month on the Wednesdays of August 16, September 13, October 18, November 15 and December 13, from 10am until 1pm.
