Pinelands police have arrested nine men following a spate of muggings in the area.
On Wednesday, March 6, police arrested two men aged 26 and 28 accused of robbing a man of his bicycle and bag.
Captain Anton van der Berg, of Pinelands police, said two men, one with a gun, robbed the man, taking his bag and bicycle, as he was cycling in Jan Smuts Drive at 6.30am. The stolen bike was recovered.
On Wednesday March 13, at Woltemade railway station, police arrested a man with a knife after two men had threatened a man at 11.30am and taken his cellphone.
Railway police chased the muggers, but one got away. The cellphone was recovered.
Pinelands police also arrested three boys accused of robbing a man at Sunset Crescent Park on Thursday, March 14 at 11.40am.
Captain van der Berg said muggers had approached the man as he had been sitting in the park with his friends.
“The man was threatened with a knife and his cellphone taken,” he said.
Pinelands police arrested two men, aged 25 and 26, accused of robbing and assaulting a man walking to Pinelands train station with at noon friends on Friday March 15.
Captain Van der Berg said one of the muggers had stabbed the man in the back of his head.
One of the friends ran for help.
Police arrested one of the men after a chase and a second man was arrested after further investigation.
Police arrested a 29-year-old man after four muggers robbed and threatened a man sleeping in his car parked in front of his home in Pinelands on Sunday morning March 16. The suspects took clothes, tools, car parts, roller blades and money.
Rondebosch police have arrested four men believed to be linked to several burglaries in the Rondebosch area and other parts of the city.
The suspects’ car was stopped in Claremont on Friday night April 5 after it was flagged by a licence-plate-recognition camera, according to Rondebosch police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam.
The suspects, aged 26 to 23, were held at the Diep River police station on a housebreaking charge and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 8.
The men are linked to burglaries in Bothasig and Brackenfell, said Warrant Officer Sisam.
