Lieutenant-Colonel Sylvan Smith, 45, is the new Rondebosch police station commander. He took over in December. His appointment followed the resignation of Lieutenant-Colonel Barbara Breedt in June last year. A Rondebosch resident, he has been in the police for 25 years with previous postings in Robertson, Gansbaai and Ashton. Lieutenant-Colonel Smith said he wanted to strengthen community-police partnerships. “My wish is to intensify the fight against crime to ensure we create a safe and secure environment for all people in Rondebosch.”
