The Mowbray Community Police Forum (CPF) has bid farewell to long-serving chairperson Jonathan Hobday, who decided not to seek re-election for another term.
A new executive committee, which will serve for a five-year term, was elected at the CPF’s annual general meeting at Hillcrest School in Rosebank on Tuesday November 19.
Ebrahim Mohamed, the CPF’s former deputy chairman, is the new chairman, taking over from Mr Hobday, who was part of the Mowbray CPF for the past 30 years.
“As chairman, I understand the obligations required from me and hope to deliver on behalf of the community firstly and secondly on behalf of the team and various structures that reside within it,” said Mr Mohamed.
“Jonathan Hobday has spent a very long time leading the Mowbray CPF. During my time serving on the executive, his leadership and interest in community safety provided for us a diligent way to approach and to deal with various issues that faced us.”
Mr Hobday said keeping control on taxis and liquor licences and ensuring police efficiency had been some of the CPF’s key achievements during his time with it.
“This service was a labour of love. I worked towards improving the quality of life for the community,” he said.
Mowbray police chief Lieutenant Colonel David Malong said Mr Hobday and his team had run the Mowbray CPF effectively.
“It is sad that he won’t be part of the organisation anymore, though, of course, we will give him a call if we need any advice on situations we are not familiar with,” he said.
