Graham Finlayson has taken over from Chris Beech as president of the Rotary Club of Newlands.
Mr Finlayson was inducted at a ceremony on Thursday June 15.
He was first introduced to Rotary as an exchange student in 1974 and recalled that time as a “life-changing experience”.
“When I came back to join the Rotary Club of Newlands in 2000, I felt it was time to become involved in the greater community again to ‘pay back my dues’, while networking and assisting those in need,” said Mr Finlayson.
He told guests at the induction ceremony that he wanted to “build on the club’s many strengths” and achieve a Rotary International citation, which is awarded to clubs that achieve key goals relating to their development and community service.
Early childhood development would remain a priority for the club, which has helped schools in Mbekweni, Philippi, Masiphumelele and Khayelitsha.
Outgoing President, Mr Beech said: “We wish Graham all the best on his Rotary journey, and with taking the club from strength to strength.”
The Rotary Club of Newlands meets at the Western Province Cricket Club, in Avenue de Mist, Rondebosch, on Mondays, at 6.15pm. Visit www.newlands.org or find
