Children living at the old Woodstock Hospital and the Helen Bowden Nursing Home in Granger Bay, both occupied by the Reclaim the City movement, which campaigns for affordable inner-city housing, took part in a fund-raising fashion show in Woodstock at the weekend. Members of Reclaim the City have renamed the Woodstock Hospital, which officially closed in February (“Woodstock hospital set to close”, Tatler, February 22), Cissie Gool House, and the Helen Bowden home, the Ahmed Kathrada House. Many of the occupiers and supporters of Reclaim the City are on the City of Cape Town’s housing database (“Activists push City for housing action,” Tatler, July 26). The fashion show on Saturday was a fund-raising event to raise funds for the children’s education and also to boost the morale of the children living in the two buildings. About 120 people attended the Hawaiian-themed show.
