Woodstock police have asked for the public’s help to solve a murder and armed robbery case.
Spokesman for Woodstock police, Sergeant Hilton Malila, said officers attended to a complaint of a fight in progress at 6.35am on Sunday September 25.
He said upon police’s arrival at the scene, they discovered a man on the sidewalk, on the side of Albert Road, Woodstock, with a stab wound to his thigh.
“Emergency personnel on the scene tried to resuscitate the patient, who was declared dead soon afterwards,” Sergeant Malila said.
He said a preliminary investigation on the scene revealed that the deceased had been stabbed with a knife in his left upper thigh and succumbed to the injury.
The police have identified him as Justin Morilly.
The motive for the stabbing is not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.
“We’ve opened a case of murder. No one has been arrested and the suspect is still at large,” Sergeant Malila said.

On Saturday October 1, at about 2am, Woodstock police attended to an armed robbery, which took place on the corner of Lawley and Roodebloem roads, where a complainant was shot and robbed of his firearm.
Sergeant Malila said according to the complainant, he had been approached by two unknown men while sitting inside his parked vehicle. The men then started attacking him.
“A struggle ensued whereby one of the suspects took out a firearm and fired one shot in the direction of the complainant. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm,” Sergeant Malila said.
The suspects made off with the complainant’s Glock pistol containing 15 rounds, and fled the scene in a white BMW vehicle in an unknown direction. The victim received medical treatment at a nearby hospital and was later discharged. The police are investigating an armed robbery case. The suspects are still at large.
