The provincial SAPS’ Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 40-year-old man in Woodstock in the early hours of Sunday May 10 for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, said members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit were patrolling in Victoria Road, Woodstock, when they observed a
VW Golf that appeared suspicious.
“They stopped and searched the vehicle and found five 9mm pistols and an assortment of ammunition,” she said.
Sergeant Rwexana said further investigation by police led them to an address in Plumstead where a rifle with ammunition was found.
“The origins of the firearms are subject to police investigation,” she said.
Sergeant Rwexana said the suspect has been charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and will appear in Cape Town’s Magistrate’s Court.
