As state pensioners, the library, being free, is an important part of our lives, but, distressingly, we cannot visit without paying a minimum of R10 for parking.
The municipal parking, as well as the library parking and street parking in the vicinity, are all charged for. We cannot afford this.
We also tried to park in ordinary street parking near to Cavendish Square and we were immediately accosted by an official who demanded R18.50.
In these extremely difficult times, it is grossly unfair to penalise pensioners.
Mayoral committee member for community services and health, Dr Zahid Badroodien responds: The City’s Library and Information Service is aware of the difficulties in terms of parking at the Claremont library. The City is trying to address the matter, but we appeal to library patrons to please bear with us while we address the situation.
