Enthusiastic Kenwyn gamer Rory Priem, 8, released Mama Said, his first single and music video on Wednesday December 7.
Rory, who goes by the gaming handle, RoMike, is a huge Fortnite gamer, and this song echoes his love for the game, he says.
Rory’s dad, Nicki Priem, said a local production company had helped to bring his son’s music video to life.
The video shows Rory getting sucked into a Fortnite-like game world where he raps and dances.
“I really enjoyed making the video a lot. It was a lot of fun,” he said.
Rory met other online gamers face to face last weekend when his family attended the rAge Expo in Johannesburg, which bills itself as “South Africa’s go-to mega event for video gaming, technology, esports, geek culture and digital entertainment.”
“We are really proud of Rory, regardless of the music video, or him getting good grades, he is a respectful and kind-mannered boy that makes us proud,” said Mr Priem.
Rory also enjoys playing football. He is a big Liverpool fan, and his favourite players are Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Mama Said is available on Spotify and Apple Music and the music video is on YouTube.
