Sisters Incorporated in Kenilworth celebrated the hard work of its social worker, Celeste Solomons, on World Social Work Day, on Tuesday March 16.
Ms Solomons, 40, has worked at the shelter for abused women and their children for five years.
“Every day is not the same, with more to do each day in the same amount of time,” she says. “It’s rewarding and fulfilling in being an instrument and vessel for positive change in the interest of a family and community.
“It’s been humbling to be allowed by the women and their children to be a part of their journey of pain and then toward self-discovery, forgiveness and growth.”
Sisters Incorporated manager Delene Roberts says Ms Solomons shows a humbleness in her work. “She has her way of journeying with a client while at Sisters Incorporated and even in the months after they exit.”
The organisation is raising money for repairs to its building. Visit BackaBuddy or sisters.org.za if you want to help.
