Melanie Cilliers, Stellenbosch University
I am a PhD student at Stellenbosch University and currently busy with a big study on HIV. I was hoping that you can help me out with some recruitment.
My study will hopefully one day be able to help HIV positive individuals.
HIV sometimes affects the brain of the patients. Their brain functioning system-atically declines and sometimes patients even develop dementia (this is called HIV-associated dementia).
This can be avoided if they receive the right treatment soon enough, but in South Africa we don’t have the right tests to pick up on these problems early.
In California they developed a test that can pick up if the patient’s brain functioning is getting worse.
We can use this test in SA if we can get an “average normal score” of healthy South Africans. That is what I am doing. I am developing South African norms (the average score basically) for this test. So why did I contact you about this?
Well, I need participants…a lot of healthy HIV negative participants, 1 000 to be exact).
Any help would be appreciated. Call me at 074 670 8987.
