The friendly green ogre, Shrek, will appear on stage, along with Princess Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad and many of the other colourful characters from the popular film series, at the Herschel Theatre, in Claremont.
Shrek the Musical is being staged by a joint cast of pupils from Bishops and Herschel Girls’ School.
Directed by Sarah McArthur from Herschel Girls’ School and Wayne Tucker from Bishops, the musical stars Jesse Barth as Shrek, Paballo Mphepya and Gini Stewart as Princess Fiona, Thandolwethu Kumalo as Donkey and Ben Anderson as the Lord Farquaad.
Shrek finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who breaks the Disney mould. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairytale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero.
The show starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday March 16, Thursday March 17, Friday March 18 and Sunday March 20 and 3pm on Saturday March 19. The theatre is at 21 Herschel Road, Claremont. Tickets cost R150 and can be bought through Quicket or by calling the Hershel Girls’ School reception at 021 670 7500.
