■ Herschel’s 14-year-old Hanim Abrahams, pictured, returned from the CANA African Swimming Championships in Bloemfontein earlier this month with three silver medals. Competing against senior swimmers, she won her medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events. The South African National coach, Graham Hill, said: “Of course Cameron and Chad swam well, but we expected that. It was the performances of the young girls that impressed me, especially Hanim Abrahams and Rebecca Meder. They are 14 years old and they won medals at an international event.” Hanim and her sister, Ammaarah (who represented South Africa at the CANA championships in Luanda last year), are pupils at Herschel Girls School.
