The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is appealing for help ahead of Mandela Day on Sunday July 18.
The Claremont-based non-profit has been unable to hold many of its fund-raisers during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to its events manager, Jackie Quail.
“With strict rules against social gatherings, sporting events and expos had to be cancelled as well as the highest fund-raising event of the year, the Guide-Dogs Gala Dinner,” she said. That had dealt a big blow to the association’s already dwindling income.
The association is appealing to the public to support the fund-raisers it can hold, including a car raffle. Tickets are R50 and can be bought on the association’s website. The winner will be announced in January next year. The public can also sponsor a litter of guide-dog puppies from R5000 to R100 000, buy merchandise from the website and become once-off or monthly donors.
