Nurses at Groote Schuur Hospital were awarded certificates of appreciation last week for their efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Rotary Club of Sea Point handed over seven certificates on Thursday November 19, coinciding with the hospital’s Excellence Awards ceremony.
Rotary club president Farhat Danyal said: “We applaud and thank you for the courage and dedication you have shown as the vital front line health-care workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
“The Rotarian Action Group for Family Health and Aids, together with the members and supporters of our Rotary Club, thank you for your caring and selfless service. You have proudly shown yourselves as professionals and have lived the ethos of the Nurses’ Pledge.”
Ward 54 councillor Nicola Jowell, who attended the ceremony, said it was important that the nurses, as the backbone of the health-care system, knew that they had the support and deep gratitude of the public.
“This year, more than any other, we need to take time to thank the people who have been on the front line of the pandemic,” she said.
Hospital spokesman Alaric Jacobs said the Rotary club had been good to the hospital during the pandemic.
“They would regularly bring refreshments to staff working on the front line. We as a hospital are very appreciative of that.”
