The Love Local Market has moved its home from Greatmore Studios in Woodstock, to the city centre.
As of Sunday October 2, the market will be hosted at the Spin Street Gallery in Church Street. The market will be in Spin Street until November and during summer, will be hosted at the Castle of Good Hope.
The market is run by Mwabi Jere, a social media practitioner and a massive fan of the local arts. The market is mobile and takes place at different venues each season, enabling people in different areas to experience the event as well as exposing the participating traders to different buyer demographics.
“We are on our third run after being hosted by Greatmore Studios for the first two events and we must say we are super excited to be hosted by yet another gorgeous venue,” said Mr Mwabi.
“You can expect more of the amazing array of local design, food and entertainment, as well as a great family friendly atmosphere.”
About 15 local creative businesses will have their own stands at the Love Local Market, showcasing a vast range of products from men and women’s fashion to jewellery, accessories, vintage clothing and natural hair and skin beauty products. Participating businesses are selected based on the simple criteria that their product is locally designed, produced or owned.
Visitors can look forward to fashion by local brands such as Mzukisi Mbane’s Imprint ZA and Ayanda Dube’s Imvula Designs, beauty products by Naiobi’s Olive Kitchen and Akan Organics, as well as jewellery by RKM Jewellery and Indwe Designs, to name a few.
Also incorporated into the market is an art exhibition headlining local fine artist Eric Karangwa and photographer Lesley Mphanga. There will also be live music by local up and coming artists and Goodhope FM DJ Sihle ‘Black Wiz’ Makanya will keep the vibe going later in the evening.
Food-lovers can enjoy local foods by B4Foods and Ukutya Foodstall, and a cash bar will sell refreshments such as wine and juices. The market will run from 3pm to 9pm on Sunday October 2 at 6 Spin Street. Although some of the traders have mobile card machines, some accept cash only. Street parking is available.
