Girl guides from the Cape West region came together on Sunday February 26, at the girl guide headquarters in Pinelands to celebrate the 160th anniversary of Baden Powell’s birthday. Lord Robert Baden Powell, or “BP” the founder of the boy scouts, was born on February 22 1857.

Every year on February 22, guides and scouts throughout the world celebrate his birthday as well as that of his wife, Olave, whose birthday was on the same day.

This year, the event looked at on how the world has changed over the 160 years since Baden Powell’s birth.

Teddies, brownies, guides and rangers completed activities relating to transport, communications, music and dance, health, shops and shopping, housing, education and gender equality through the ages.
