The Vine School’s new fresh produce garden is finally flourishing, after the kindergarten class have been working on this project on a small piece of land behind their classroom since January. Kindergarten teachers, Jean Lowe and Dayle Reid, helped set up the garden, and help the children each week with their tasks. The school’s marketing coordinator, Janice Thorne-Smith, says it first started as a bare patch. “They then helped move stones out the area, helped add compost and have slowly been planting and growing various flowers, herbs and vegetables,” she said. Ms Thorne-Smith says the main purpose behind the garden is to teach the pupils how to grow from seed to fruit, and to know where fruit and vegetables come from.
