Police have arrested four men they believe may be linked to a spate of
early-morning muggings in Observatory.
Officers on patrol spotted a car travelling the wrong way in Trill Road on Tuesday April 4 and pulled it over at the Shell garage in Main Road, Observatory.
When they searched the car, the officers found tik, tools used to break into cars, and a 9mm pistol.
“All the suspects were arrested and are currently in custody,” said Woodstock police spokesman Sergeant Hilton Malila.
Detectives are investigating whether the suspects can be linked to the muggings that have plagued the area.
Police arrested a man and a woman for robbery, in Railway Street, at the Mascani informal settlement on Tuesday April 4.
Sergeant Malila said they allegedly, along with another man, had stolen an iPhone and wallet. The third suspect is still at large, but the officers recovered the stolen items and returned them to their owner.
