Genevieve Heathcote-Marks, who matriculated from Westerford High School in last year, was awarded a ministerial award for fortitude. She achieved six distinctions and an average of 83,3% in the National Senior Certificate exams, despite very difficult personal circumstances.
Genevieve became financially independent through doing three part-time jobs: she is a qualified yoga instructor, makes jewellery and she worked in a shop that sells crystals.
Despite all her challenges, she remained involved in music at Westerford High School, specifically in the choir, and her dream of becoming an opera singer was born. To accomplish this, she will be studying music at the University of Cape Town after taking a gap year.
