Mark Kleinschmidt, Ward 60 councillor, Kenwyn
It’s been a long time since I entered a courtroom. Wynberg Magistrate’s Court was abuzz as usual when I participated in the picket with the DA’s Women’s Network, to oppose bail for for a suspect who allegedly violated a 13-year-old girl from Kewtown.
She is scarred for life.
During this Women’s Month, men must take a strong stance to eradicate the ongoing horrendous abuse of women and children.
Statistics reveal that a woman is raped every 26 seconds -inevitably, perpetrated by men.
Our picketing and handing over of a memorandum to SAPS newly-appointed ombudsman, General-Major Johan Brand, outside Wynberg Magistrate’s Court, symbolises our anger and absolute rejection of rapists and their kind in our communities.
Collectively we must be held accountable for the evil that men do.
Enough is enough.
