Ian Neilson, deputy mayor, City of Cape Town.
Regarding the donation from the South African Breweries to the City (“‘SAB can do more to help with water’”, Tatler, February 8), the donation will be used to accelerate the roll-out of advanced pressure management infrastructure.
This programme, one of a number of demand management interventions, is being ramped up as a result of the serious water shortage.
Advanced pressure management valves allow the City to control water pressure in an area remotely.
Reduced water pressure slows the rate at which water is dispensed, thereby lowering consumption levels.
Managing pressure also reduces leaks and bursts.
The City has observed a drop in overall consumption that coincided with pressure management interventions.
