The Drakensberg Boys Choir is searching South Africa, including the Cape area, for boys between the ages of 9 and 14, with potentially great singing voices, to join the world’s best boy choir.
Worldwide there are a number of boy choirs, but the Drakensberg Boys Choir is unique in that it is the only choir school on the African continent, being a boarding school that uses choral music as a
significant vehicle for holistic education.
The school is nestled in one of the world’s major heritage sites, the mighty Okhahlamba Mountain range, and provides, not only training and performances in choral, contemporary and pop singing but also African folklore music and choreographed movement.
The school allows boys the opportunity to experience a vibrant outdoor life with cycling, swimming and hiking, integral to the curriculum.
Founded in 1967, the mission of the Drakensberg Boys Choir School is to prepare boys for life and leadership through excellence in music, academics, physical development and social enrichment, in a Christian environment.
Auditions will be held at the Western Province Prep School Hall in Claremont on Friday October 2, from 2pm to 4pm; at Curro Sitari High School at Sitari Country Estate in Somerset West on Saturday October 3, from 8am to 9.30am; and at Curro Durbanville on Saturday October 3, from 11.30am to 1pm.
Boys will not need to prepare anything for their audition.
