Claremont police arrested six men after they received information about a burglary in Mowbray.
Spokeswoman for the Wynberg Cluster, Captain Angie Latchman, said that on Tuesday May 24, police were told to be on the lookout for a white Avanza with six men inside.
According to Captain Latchman, the six men burlged a Malleson Road home. “At the time of the announcement, members were travelling along Palmyra Road when they noticed a suspicious white Avanza fitting the description, and called for back-up, and a chase ensued.
“Police managed to pull over the vehicle in Imam Haron Road, and, upon searching the vehicle, they recovered a television set, four cameras, an assortment of jewellery, a crowbar and a screwdriver.”
The men, aged between 28 and 35, were due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday May 26, facing charges of housebreaking and theft, possession of presumed stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
“Police are also investigating the possibility of these men being linked to other cases.
* The Cape Town Cluster Crime Prevention Unit executed various search warrants in the early hours of last Thursday May 19.
Woodstock police spokesman, Sergeant Hilton Malila said police arrested two men, aged 46 and 50, and a 27-year-old woman in Wright Street.
“Officers swooped on the Wright Street homes and found a black box containing 195 small packets of tik.
“We also seized eight stoppe of dagga, three big plastic bank bags filled with tik and a substantial amount of cash that was found in the possession of the suspects,” he said.
All the suspects are facing charges related to dealing and possession of drugs and were due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 23.
