The Cape Town Male Voice Choir (CTMVC) is calling on composers to enter their Choral Composition Competition.
Composers stand a chance of winning cash prizes for six choral works for male voice choirs.
Two awards of R10 000 each will be made for original works and four awards of R5 000 each for the arrangement of four South African songs.
All entries must be written for Two Tenors, Baritone and Bass (TTBB) voices, suitable for singing by an adult male voice choir. The competition is being hosted by the CTMVC, in partnership with the Cenestra Male Choir from Gauteng, and supported by the National Lotteries Board.
The Cape Town Male Voice Choir was formed in 1976 as a four-part male voice choir. The choir was open to all from the outset but apartheid prevented the building of a diverse choir. For a number of years now, the choir has intensified efforts to become truly representative of the City.
“We are thrilled to be hosting this competition. This is a great opportunity for composers to contribute to and enhance the rich choral tradition that is embedded in our communities. Our shared choral tradition creates the opportunity for us to build bridges across our historic divides and to enrich the culture of our communities,” said Lewis Rabkin, chairperson of the CTMVC.
Details of the competition, including guidelines for the compositions, are included on the entry forms, which can be obtained by emailing info@ctmvc.co.za or call 082 860 0402 for more information.
Interested composers and arrangers must submit their entry to the CTMVC by Monday October 31.
