South African National Parks (SANParks) has opened a case of vandalism, after the bust of the 19th century colonialist Cecil John Rhodes, at Rhodes Memorial, was found vandalised. Rey Thakhuli, acting head of communications, said a senior section ranger of the Table Mountain National Park noticed the damage on Monday July 13. “The head of the statue was cut from the bust with what seems to be an angle grinder somewhere between Sunday night or the early hours of Monday morning.” No further details were available at the time of publication.
