Woodstock police are on the hunt for three suspects who are alleged to have caused R200 000 worth of damages in Salt River’s Main Road on Monday May 9.
Police members were called out to a tyre fitment centre situated in Main Road at 1.55pm, where two cars were set alight by three unknown young men.
Sergeant Hilton Malila, spokesperson for Woodstock police, said it has been alleged that while one of the general workers were busy in the workshop, three unknown young men entered carrying a black bag. “The men acted suspiciously and when one of the employees made enquires about their whereabouts, they took out plastic containers, containing petrol, and threw it over two parked vehicles and set it alight,” Sergeant Malila said.
He further confirmed that the three men ran in the direction of Rochester Road in Salt River.
The damage to the two cars, a VW Polo and Hyundai, is estimated to be around R200 000, with the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident currently being investigated.
“We opened a case of malicious damage to property. The suspects, who are believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30 years old, are still at large,” Sergeant Malila said.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects, or who witnessed the incident, is asked to contact the investigation officer, Warrant Officer Warren Smith, at the Woodstock police station on 021 486 2863 or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
