An Observatory-based NGO, launched a book, Our Stories, at the Book Lounge in Cape Town on May 15.
Mamelani Projects runs a support programme for young people transitioning from orphanages after they turn 18.
The book tells the stories of some of these youngsters, including losing parents, escaping
abusive homes, overcoming reading and writing difficulties, surviving alcoholic parents and being
in a new country without any family.
Extracts were read by some of the young people who appear in the book.
Mamelani’s spokeswoman Linda Kaoma said the book could inspire young people in similar circumstances to those whose stories it tells.
Email contact@mamelani.org.za to order a copy of the book. For each book purchased, one copy will be donated to a school, a local library or a child and youth care centre.
