Aadil Dawood, 17, a Grade 11 pupil from Bishops in Rondebosch, has won a bronze medal at a global science fair.
Some 140 young scientists from 10 countries attended the İzmir International Innovation Science Energy Engineering Fair in Turkey earlier this month.
Aadil’s project looked at how urine analysis can show the impact of exercise on the human body at the molecular level.
“Being part of such an event is something I’ll always remember. Meeting people from different countries and sharing ideas was inspiring,” said Aadil.
Another Western Cape pupil, Thiedu du Preez, 17, from Vredenburg High School, on the West Coast, won a silver medal for his project on economical natural alternatives for wound healing.
Both boys competed in the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair, held in Kempton Park in September.
“The two young scientists are indeed unlocking exciting possibilities to resolve societal problems for the future. We encourage Aadil and Thiedu to keep pushing boundaries and explore new possibilities in their fields of study,” said the Eskom Development Foundation’s acting CEO, Mologadi Motshele.
Education MEC David Maynier said: “This is an outstanding achievement in the face of stiff international competition. Their innovative ideas wowed the judges and showed great potential for application in the future.”
