The Kenilworth woman accused of plotting to have her husband killed, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday October 24, where her bail was set at R30 000, with a few hefty conditions attached.
Petina – better known as Tina – Coetzee, 44, was arrested in the parking lot at the Lansdowne Station on Tuesday October 18, during an operation by detectives and the Manenberg Serious and Violent Crimes Investigation Unit, after being tipped off about her alleged plans to have her husband, Austin, 67, killed.
The couple have a three-year-old son together and Ms Coetzee has two sons from a previous marriage, one of whom lives with her and
Mr Coetzee.
Ms Coetzee was arrested after she had handed over an undisclosed amount of money to a “hitman” to follow through with the job.
A number of news reports have reported that it was around R200 000, but this has not yet been confirmed.
She was arrested and spent the weekend at Pollsmoor Prison after a brief court appearance on Thursday October 20.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said information about the case has yet to be revealed. “It will come out during the trial,” he said.
“Releasing it would prejudice the trial. I can confirm that the accused is charged with conspiracy to commit murder,” he said.
After her unopposed bail application on Monday, Ms Coetzee’s bail was set at R30 000, with strict conditions, which include her having to report to the Elsies River police station at 8am and 8pm each day, not speaking to any witnesses linked with the case, staying at a pre-approved address in Elsies River, handing over her passport and ID documents to the Clerk of the Court and not leaving the province without permission.
Ms Coetzee’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday December 2.
