Pinelands High School has declined to comment on allegations that a disgraced former Proteas cricket player assaulted a 14-year-old pupil at the school.
Contacted by the Tatler in the wake of the allegations against former Proteas wicketkeeper and Pinelands High alumnus, Thami Tsolekile, school spokesperson, Barbara Figaji, said: “As the matter was being investigated by the police, the school declined to comment”.
Tsolekile, 35, who earlier this year was handed a 12-year ban by Cricket South Africa (CSA) for “contriving to fix a match” during the 2015 Tam Slam T20 competition, appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday September 13.
He was later released on a warning and will make his next court appearance on Monday October 10.
It is alleged that, on Thursday September 8, Tsolekile assaulted the pupil near Pinelands High School.
The former player has denied the claims, and said the pupil had thrown stones at his car.
According to the charge sheet, Tsolekile grabbed the teenager by the chest, and hit him in the face with an open hand.
Tsolekile attended Pinelands High School and is one of its most famous alumni.
His biography on the official CSA website states that while at Pinelands High “he broke almost every existing Cape Town schoolboy cricket record, many of them set a few years previously by Jacques Kallis, and proved himself a superb hockey player”.
