South Africans knitted together in warm displays around the country on Sunday for the sixth 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.
The Gary Kirsten Oval, at Western Cape Cricket Club in Rondebosch, was one of six event venues around the country.
PJ Powers performed and about 250 crochet and knitted blankets were collected and laid out.
The event’s Cape Town ambassador Sandi King said there had also been an overwhelming response to calls for donations for the victims of the tropical cyclone Idai.
“Blankets will be donated to communities in and around
Cape Town. Organisations or individuals wishing to receive a donation can email infocptss@67blankets.co.za” said Ms King.
