Acclaimed South African pianist, David Earl, 72, will give a solo piano recital to raise funds for the maintenance and upgrading of the century-old St Thomas Anglican church hall.
The recital will take place at Rondebosch Boys’ High School Memorial Hall, in Canigou Avenue, Rondebosch, on Sunday June 4, from 3pm.
The Rondebosch church held a walkathon fund-raiser earlier this year in support of its efforts to maintain the hall (“Keeping church’s ‘old lady’ in good shape,” Southern Suburbs Tatler, March 23)
Reverend Claire Hunter said it was an honour to have Earl perform in aid of the church’s fund-raising efforts. “We are most appreciative that he has given up his time and is willing to share his musical gifts with us for this worthy cause.”
Earl, who lives in Cambridge in the UK but stays in Rondebosch when visiting family, said he was delighted to support his late mother Alaire Earl’s church. “My family have a long association with St Thomas, and my sister is presently alternate church warden.”
Earl will perform works by Beethoven, Schumann and Tchaikovsky as well as his own compositions. Tickets are R150 from Quicket and include refreshments and a prize draw during the short interval. Visit str.org.za or call 021 685 6752 for details.
