The Cape Town Steelband Festival takes place at the Baxter concert hall on Thursday April 25, at 7.30pm. The festival is a joint venture between the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival and the Steelband Project, which was set up in 1997 by Liz Brouckaert and David Wickham. The project’s aim is to provide quality music education to young people, especially youth in poor communities and “youth-at-risk”. There are 16 steelbands being taught weekly by the Steelband Project. Each has about 15 members. Tickets are R140 for adults and R80 for seniors, pupils and students. Tickets are available from Webtickets or the Baxter booking office at 021 685 7880.
