Anjali in Wonderland, a show by Taare, an Indian dance troupe, will be on at the Artscape theatre next month.
This dance interpretation of the Lewis Carroll classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, reimagines the experience of Wonderland through dance and a musical score comprising many popular Bollywood tracks.
Artistic director Ahneesh Valodia said the Taare dancers, accompanied by guests from other dance genres, “breathe new life into an old tale through inspired choreography, new characters and a romantic spin that is so true to any Bollywood classic”.
The cast includes dancers from across Cape Town and the male lead, Brandon Rohan, is from Durban.
“The dances being Bollywood in nature are further enhanced by elaborate, detailed costumes and a diverse range of music from this film industry. From old to new, the rich musical score has something for everyone,” said Mr Valodia.
Taare uses Bollywood song and dance to promote the Indian arts and was founded in 2012 by Mr Valodia.
Anjali in Wonderland will run on Friday July 7 and Saturday July 8, at 7.30pm, and on Sunday July 9, at 3pm. Tickets are R180 and can be booked through Computicket.
