The Cape Town branch of the SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind will be hosting their Light in the Dark Gala Dinner on Saturday October 12, in the ballroom at Kelvin Grove Club, in Newlands, at 6pm for 6.30pm. All funds raised from the black-tie event will go to the training of working guide dogs. The cost of breeding and training one working dog is in excess of R100 000. The visually-impaired person only pays R5 for their dog and R200 for their equipment and training. The association does not receive any form of government assistance, and all funds are raised from the public. The goal for this year’s dinner is to raise R800 000, enough to train eight new dogs. Tickets cost R780 per person or R7 000 for a table of 10. The price includes a three-course meal, wine and entertainment.
