The 8th Shakespeare Schools Festival South Africa is taking place from Thursday April 19 to Saturday April 21 at the Artscape Theatre and from Monday May 7 to Saturday May 12 at the Baxter Theatre.
The festival is aimed at improving language and social skills through the performing arts.
Pupils and teachers are provided with guidance and the resources through scripts, training, framework and feedback that enables them to successfully direct and perform Shakespearean plays from the first line to the final bow.
Schools get to prepare and perform 30-minute abridged versions of the plays. School across the Western Cape and as far afield as Hermanus are taking part. The De La Bat School for the Deaf will make their stage debut with their version of Romeo and Juliet in South African sign language (SASL) and the outreach programme will extend into new communities in Mitchell’s Plain and Manenberg for the first time.
Performances, open to the public, are at 7pm at both venues. Book at Computicket for the Artscape and Webtickets for the Baxter or email info@educape.co.za or more information.
