Comic Con Cape Town, which will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre 2 (CTICC2) from Thursday April 27 to Sunday April 30, announced that English actor David Oakes, who is best known for his roles in the series Vikings: Valhalla and Victoria, will join the international stars of four films and series.
The announcement was made at a media briefing, presented by Comic Con Cape Town’s marketing manager, Calvin van den Berg, and managing director of RX Africa, Carol Weaving.
“We’ve made this all encompassing, and we have something for everyone,” said Ms Weaving.
In collaboration with FanCon and the Cape Town International Animation Festival, the Comic Con will host over 200 exhibitors, and will be able to accommodate over 20 000 visitors across the four days.
The event will take place over two halls, and will include four stages and content zones, with many speakers on the programme.
Over 95 local artists, several international artists from across the globe including the USA, UK and Zimbabwe, comic artists, illustrators and animators will form part of the Artist Alley. Visitors can look forward to live drawing sessions as well as interviews with international and local comic book artists.
There will also be a Cosplay Masters Competition for those who come dressed up in cosplay. The winner will be crowned Cosplat Regional Champion, and there will also be a meet and greet with cosplay stars including Elizabeth Range, and Leon Chiro.
Comic Con will also have gaming experiences with free-to-play tournaments and zones. The Doritos Crunch Cup will have R10 000 up for grabs each day. Four free-to-play tournaments, pro showdowns, and the Red Bull Hattrick, which presents a unique 3-on-3 team format, will see regional university teams qualify for the National Final at Comic Con Cape Town.
StreetCon will showcase streetwear, music and street art, and the new addition of The Custom Wars where top artists will be challenged to customise a pair of Palladium boots with a pop culture theme.
Another part of the Comic Con will be StreamerCon, which will offer digital creators, platform innovators, and their fans a place to meet, mingle, make new friends, and expand their reach through industry exchanges with over 30 speakers and content creators. Scottish streamer Marley13 will be on the line-up – best known for his series relaying “things that Scottish COD players say”.
Collectable comics will also be on sale, as well as pen play sessions of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering,and a range of tabletop game demos.
Tickets cost R160 for a day pass, and R533 for a weekend pass. There are added costs for workshops.
