■ The Cape Town International Jazz Festival Sustainable Training and Development All Star Band, pictured, was announced at Artscape on Sunday March 26. These are the best performers and artists from the various schools who together form a new band that played at yesterday’s annual free CTIJF concert on Greenmarket Square.The formation of the band is the culmination of the workshops that took place during February. All Star Band members are Benjamin Lewis (keyboards) and Timothy Arends (drums), both from, Wynberg High School, Shane Napoleon(alto sax) and Jaden Philander(guitar), both from The Settlers High School, Alex van As (bass), Jordan Harrison (trumpet) and Mason Prince (trombone), all from Heathfield High School, Dane Paris (trumpet) from Groote Schuur High School and Tiyana-Lee Stemmet (vocal) and Esihle Valela (tenor sax), both from Alexander Sinton High School. The students shared the stage with En Vogue (USA), Mango Groove (South Africa), Moreira Chonguiça (Mozambique), 2017espYoungLegends winner VuDu (South Africa) and SA Cothing and Textile Workers’ Union talent winner Danielle Jacobs (South Africa). The Cape Town International Jazz Festival takes places at the Cape Town International Convention Centre this Friday March 31 and Saturday April 1.
